About
Living Sattva is a project of Mike Hannum with the aspiration of sowing the seeds of mindfulness, compassion and wisdom.
Mike began practicing Yoga-postures and meditation over thirteen years ago, Kirtan chanting in 2003 and Ayurveda in 2005. His ongoing interest in the interface between Yoga, Buddhist meditation, and Ayurveda continually inspires his interdisciplinary approach to practice and teaching that embraces these three wisdom traditions as well as uplifting, spirited music to enliven the body, open the heart and cultivate a clear and spacious mind. Mike is also deeply interested in and dedicated to integrating practice into daily life and social action (see spiritual activism).
Mike is an Ashtanga yoga practitioner, trained by Tim Miller and authorized by Yoga Master Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. His background includes Zen and Vipassana meditation practice, training and certification in Ayurveda, ashtanga vinyasa yoga practice in India and the exploration of bhakti yoga and kirtan music with Jai Uttal and Daniel Paul.
Mike teaches the Ashtanga method in a dynamic and inspiring way, weaving in the wisdom of various traditions, his own personal experiences and humor. He teaches with enthusiasm and care incorporating both the physical and spiritual aspects of the practice, to guide practitioners on an inner journey towards healing, self-awareness, acceptance and empowerment. Mike’s compassionate nature and sincerity help create the space for students to open in body, mind and heart.
Mike and his wife Erin live in Spokane, Washington, where he offers public and private yoga classes and workshops, Ayurvedic consultations and kirtan events. He is also the co-founder of the Alliance for Greater Well-Being, a non-profit organization bringing yoga and meditation to underserved populations.
