Kirtan

Kirtan is for all people. There are no experts, no beginners. The practice itself is the teacher, guiding us to ourselves… With Kirtan we create a temple inside the altar of our hearts, a place of refuge, a place of love, and a place of just being.

- Jai Uttal

Mike regularly leads groups in this heart-opening practice of call-and-response group chanting, while Erin accompanies him on the drum. The proceeds from their kirtans go to support the Alliance for Greater Well-Being. Please see Mike’s schedule for upcoming kirtans.

Mike’s first Kirtan album, “Rivers that Never Run Dry – Kirtan Experience” was recently released. On this album Mike and a host of talented musicians from India, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Spain, and the United States offer inspiring and uplifting versions of India’s sacred chants. Recorded in Mysore, India with lots of heart and soul these songs combine folk music from the east and west with the harmonized voices of Mike and a choir of six female vocalists affectionately known as the Gopis. The result is world spirit music that is authentic, deeply devotional and also creative and free. Instruments range from the western violin to the very Indian sounding veena and include harmonium, bansuri bamboo flute, tablas and mridangam.
